Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Health Sciences Otukpo, FUHSO, Prof Innocent Achanya Otobo Ujah, mni, has charged students of the foremost Federal University of its kind in Nigeria to put in their best to attain excellence in both learning and character. The Vice-Chancellor handed over this charge on Monday, November 22nd, 2021 while declaring open an orientation programme organized by the Management of FUHSO for the 2020/2021 maiden students of the University.
According to the VC, the students' orientation was put together as part of her statutory function to enlighten new students on the historical background, vision, mission and status of the institution (FUHSO). Prof Ujah advised the premier students to strive for excellence. The Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology while warning the students against lackadaisicalness to studies, obnoxious behavior and character, assured them that the University authority would not hesitate to show any student the exit door if his or her performance falls below standard.
He strongly admonished them that cultism, `sorting’, Sex for marks among other social vices are prohibited saying any student found wanting will face full wrath of the law. He urged them to settle down quickly for proper studies assuring them of enabling environment for their academic pursuit.
The Vice-Chancellor who doubles as the President, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, the first in the history of Nigeria, paid glowing tribute to Muhammadu Buhari GCFR and visitor of the University, Dr Goodluck Jonathan GCFR and Senator David Mark GCON. Others include Apa Education Foundation, AEF, Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, Permanent Secretary, Federal ministry of Education, Arc Sony Echono and others for their various roles toward the actualization of FUHSO.
Earlier, Director of Academic Planning and control, Prof Owoicho Akpa pointed that his joy was full as there can be no University without students and enjoined them to pay total attention to their studies.
The pioneer students expressed their joy and happiness to be part of FUHSO history adding it was a dream come true and promised not to fail their parents and the University
The Registrar of the University, Mallam Aminu Abba FIMC, Bursar Mr John Abah, University Librarian, Dr Kathryn Philips, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof Stephen Abah, Provost College of Medicine, Prof Oladapo Shittu and Chief Security Officer, Mr Raphael Ameh as well as resource persons were in attendance.
The orientation programme commenced with preliminary and technical sessions at the University Auditorium, Otada Otukpo, take-off campus.
